Very tough question. Considering the nexus s has been around for a while already and represents the previous generation in tech (single core processor, 512 MB of RAM, not LTE-4g), I personally would not buy the nexus s at this point in time. a very important thing to consider is this: how miserable are you with your current phone? if you have a decent, maybe 2 year old android phone that is still working fine...then i would wait and buy a device the moment it comes out, rather than buying a device like the nexus s that has already been out for a while and will be phased out soon.
for people on verizon this question may be even harder, given the imminent release of the motorola bionic, and other devices like the HTC vigor on the horizon.
one last thing to consider is that the nexus prime October release date is just a rumor...it could easily be pushed back to november or december.
sorry i can't give you a succinct answer..but personally i'd say NO, wait for the prime or the host of other devices coming this fall, assuming your current device is not too painful and you're willing to pay 200-300 for the prime.
